The Lewis Prize for Music unveils $1 million fund for youth-focused music programs
The newly formed philanthropic arts organization The Lewis Prize for Music, which in January awarded $1.75 million in grants aimed at fostering access to music education nationwide, has established a $1 million fund solely designed to help youth-focused music programs during the coronavirus pandemic.
The fund will provide more than 20 one-time grants, ranging from $25,000 to $50,000, to music-based organizations around the country.
Three months ago, New York-based The Lewis Prize for Music awarded $500,000 each to three music-centric organizations and individuals in the United States, with one of the grants going to Brandon Steppe and his San Diego-based David’s Harp Foundation, an East Village music education program for at-risk teens. In addition to the three awards totaling $1.5 million, an additional six grants were handed out, ranging from $25,000 to $50,000.
