Our Statement on Unjust Murders by Police
Wednesday, June 4, 2020 — In solidarity with all those seeking to eradicate racism and police brutality against the Black community that have persisted across America for hundreds of years, The Lewis Prize for Music issued the following statement:
The Lewis Prize for Music condemns the hate and racism that have led to the unjust murders of Black Americans by police. We stand in unity with every person who is speaking out against systemic racism and violence that target Black communities.
We are a philanthropy committed to building more equitable systems through music in young people’s lives. We are proud of the unique ways our inaugural awardees create just opportunities for Black youth and youth of color.
We will continue to support young people and the adults in their lives who give them love, safety, and a musical voice to reshape the United States into a fair and humane nation for all.
